About the play
The Chronicles of Bad Ass Women is a collection of outlawed histories retold through the legends of four women: Sally Skull, Etta Place, Bonnie Parker and Janis Joplin. Gipson’s story unearths these women’s legacies, their disappointments, their mistakes and their desires, giving voice to the forgotten and reshaping the past.
This play is approximately 90 minutes. There is no intermission.
The Chronicles of Bad Ass Women includes adult language.

About the playwright
Holli Gipson's plays have been produced and developed at her alma mater Cornell College, Iowa City, Chicago and in her current residence, Austin, Texas. Her play, PEACH BLOOD was selected for the main stage series at Cornell College. Her experimental play SCAVENGER HEART was workshopped in UT’s 2009 Lab Series and THE CHRONICLES OF BAD ASS WOMEN was workshopped during the University Co-op Presents the Cohen New Works Festival in March 2011. Holli holds a B.A. in English and Theater from Cornell College. She is currently pursuing her M.F.A in Playwriting at the University of Texas at Austin where she’s also found a passion for teaching. In the winter of 2010 she attended the Theater of the Oppressed Conference in Kalkutta where she found a love for political and educational theater. She is also trained in Drama Based Instruction through the Summer Institute at UT.
About the director
Daria Davis comes to Austin by way of Chicago where she spent five years directing new work and performing wild acts of dramaturgy. A second year in the Directing M.F.A. program at UT Austin, Daria has continued her passion for developing and collaborating on staged readings and workshops of new work. Additionally at UT, she has directed projects ranging from a back porch production of PROOF, to STOCKPILE, a site specific work about squirrels and their problems, to DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE, a movement based thriller about the control freak in all of us. Future projects include THE CHRONICLES OF BAD ASS WOMEN written by Holli Gipson. A love letter to Carl Sagan performed through objects and the most straight ahead, literal staging of William Inge’s masterpiece: PICNIC.
Daria is a graduate of the Literary Apprenticeship Program at Steppenwolf Theater Company, is a proud company member of Chicago’s hybrid storytelling series 2nd Story, and served as the director of new play development at Red Tape Theatre. Daria is a graduate of The Theatre School at DePaul University where she completed a B.F.A. in Theater Studies.
